Frequently asked questions.
Pick your side of the counter — running a lost and found, or looking for something you've lost.
For businesses
What does MyQRSearch cost for a business?
Partner plans start free, so you can log found items and appear in the directory without a contract or a card. Paid plans add higher listing volumes and more staff accounts. Current plans and prices are on our How It Works page.
How long does setup take?
Most locations are up and running the same day they're approved. You print and display your location's QR code, add staff accounts, and start logging found items — no hardware to install and no software to download beyond a web browser.
What do our staff actually do when someone hands in an item?
They log it: snap a photo, choose a category, and note where and when it was found. That takes under a minute on a phone. The item is then searchable in your inventory and in the public directory, and owners contact you through the platform to claim it.
Do we need special hardware or printed tags?
No. Any smartphone or computer works. Your location's QR code can be printed on a regular printer in several sizes from your dashboard.
What happens to items nobody claims?
Unclaimed items remain your property to handle under your own retention policy and any state rules that apply to found property — most partner locations hold items for around 45 days. Our state lost & found guides summarize what several states expect of finders and businesses.
Is our customers' information safe?
Yes. Owners and finders communicate through the platform, and personal contact details are never published on a listing. Pages that could reveal an item owner's details are also excluded from search engines.
Can more than one staff member use the system?
Yes. Partner plans include agent accounts, so housekeeping, security, or front-desk staff can each log and manage items under your location.
For individuals
How do I search for something I've lost?
Go to Found items and search by keyword or category — free, no account needed. Every listing is logged by a verified partner location.
My item isn't listed. Does that mean it's gone?
Not necessarily. Items are often logged days after they're found, so keep checking back. It's also worth contacting the place you think you lost it directly — and if they're not on MyQRSearch yet, tell them about us.
How do I claim an item?
Contact the partner location straight from the listing and describe your item. You'll verify ownership when you collect it — partners confirm details like distinguishing marks before handing anything over.
How long do partner locations keep found items?
Policies vary by location, but most hold items for around 45 days. If you've lost something, search sooner rather than later.
What are MyQRSearch QR tags, and do I need one to use the site?
You don't need one to search or claim. QR tags are optional labels for your own belongings: if a tagged item goes missing, whoever finds it can scan the code and message you anonymously — no personal details printed on the tag.
Is my personal information visible to strangers?
No. Messages between finders, owners, and partners run through the platform. Your contact details are never shown on a listing or a tag.
What does it cost for individuals?
Searching and claiming are free. Creating QR tags starts free, with paid plans for more tags. Current plans are on our How It Works page.
